Wood Vinegar and Bioactive Charcoal

Findings and Applications of Wood Vinegar

Wood vinegar, which is still being researched, is supported by the agricultural ministries of various countries—particularly for its use in organically certified farming. Available sources on this topic originate from Australia, Thailand, China, certain states in the USA, and South America.

Agricultural Use and Effects

  • It positively contributes to the development of roots, stems, tubers like potatoes, as well as leaves, flowers, and fruits.

  • In a fruit orchard, a dramatic increase in fruit yield was observed upon first use.

  • It balances excess nitrogen in the soil, accelerates plant metabolism, and increases sugar content in fruits.

  • It enhances photosynthesis, which in turn improves the nutritional value of the fruit.

  • It significantly raises Brix values (a measure of sugar content). All nutrients in the soil are transferred more effectively to the fruit and leaves.

  • It improves compost quality when used in composting processes.

  • In areas where it is used agriculturally, fertilizer use should be reduced by 50%, as wood vinegar improves both microbial life in the soil and photosynthesis in plants, making excessive fertilizer unnecessary.

  • It is reported to be highly effective against fungal and viral diseases.

Effects on Living Organisms

  • It causes no harm to any living organism as long as usage guidelines and proper dosages are followed.

  • It is harmless to pollinators such as bees and other beneficial insects.

  • It stimulates egg production in chickens.

  • It improves meat quality in cattle.

Hydroponic (Soilless) Farming

  • Experiments are ongoing regarding its use in hydroponic production.

  • So far, it has not been used in aquaponics systems.

  • Since it may be slightly harmful to fish, caution is advised.

  • However, it can be used as a foliar fertilizer (sprayed onto plant leaves).

  • Its use in hydroponics may be possible if pH levels are properly controlled.

Effects on Human Health

  • Some studies suggest that it may be beneficial in conditions such as liver disorders, hepatitis, jaundice, and liver cancer.

  • It has been used in treating skin ulcers and mouth ulcers.

  • It is also said to help regulate stomach acidity and reduce body odor.
