🔥 BIOCHAR – QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1. What is biochar and why should it be used?
Biochar is a high-carbon soil amendment obtained by carbonizing agricultural waste through pyrolysis at 350–700°C in an oxygen-free environment. It increases water retention, balances soil pH, and contributes to climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration.
2. What does biochar do in the soil?
It enhances microbial activity, reduces nutrient loss, and improves water-holding capacity. It rehabilitates saline and barren soils, and improves soil structure over time, thus increasing yield.
3. How much biochar should I apply?
Typically, 50–100 kg per decare (da) is applied. However, the amount may vary depending on soil type, crop variety, and irrigation conditions. A soil analysis before application is recommended.
4. Can biochar be used together with traditional animal manure?
Yes. When mixed with manure, biochar helps retain nutrients, allows slow release, and reduces bad odors. It also enhances the composting process.
5. Is biochar truly environmentally beneficial?
Absolutely. Each ton of biochar applied to the soil removes approximately 2.5–3 tons of CO₂ equivalent carbon from the atmosphere for the long term, thus reducing the carbon footprint of agriculture.
6. Does biochar reduce the need for irrigation?
Yes. Thanks to its porous structure, it retains water and provides longer-lasting moisture in the root zone, offering a significant advantage especially in arid regions.
7. Can biochar be used in organic farming?
Certified organic biochar can be used as a soil conditioner in organic production. It is important to purchase from a certified producer.
🌿 WOOD VINEGAR (PYROLIGNEOUS ACID) – QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1. What is wood vinegar?
It is a liquid obtained by condensing the smoke released during the pyrolysis of organic agricultural waste. It contains acetic acid, phenols, ketones, esters, and alcohols, and acts as a natural microbial balancer and antifungal agent.
2. How is it applied to plants?
It is generally diluted at a ratio of 1:100 (1 liter wood vinegar + 100 liters water) and applied via foliar spray or drip irrigation. Positive effects have been observed on crops such as tomatoes, peppers, and lettuce.
3. Is wood vinegar harmful to human health?
It is natural in content but can be irritating in high concentrations. It should be diluted before use and direct contact should be avoided. Certified organic versions are available.
4. Can it be used in animal feed?
Yes, especially as an immune booster. However, only products licensed as "animal feed additives" should be used and must be administered with care.
5. What does wood vinegar do, if it’s not a pesticide?
It naturally balances microbial activity in agriculture, reduces the use of chemical pesticides, boosts plant immunity, and promotes growth.
6. Can wood vinegar be used as a disinfectant?
Yes. It suppresses harmful microorganisms and prevents bad odors in areas like garbage bins, animal shelters, and barn floors due to its natural phenolic content.
7. Can it be used to wash fruits and vegetables?
Appropriately diluted wood vinegar (1:200) helps remove pesticide residues from fruits and vegetables. It should be thoroughly rinsed with water before consumption.
8. Can wood vinegar be mixed with other fertilizers?
Yes. It provides a synergistic effect when mixed with compost, liquid fertilizers, seaweed extracts, or humic acids. Application doses must be carefully followed.
🛢️ WOOD TAR – QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1. What is wood tar? What is it used for?
Wood tar is one of the liquid by-products of the pyrolysis process. It is known for its antifungal and antiseptic properties and is traditionally used in wood preservation, veterinary care, and non-pharmaceutical animal care.
2. Can it be used as a plant protection product?
Not directly. However, in some formulations, it may be included as a natural pesticide or fungicide additive.
3. How is it used in animal care?
It can be applied topically as an antiseptic for hoof and skin issues. Only licensed products should be used according to their instructions.
4. Is wood tar applied like paint?
Yes. It can be applied with a brush or spray to wooden and metal surfaces. Once dry, it forms a waterproof layer. Ideal for garbage containers, poles, and docks.
5. How long does tar last?
Depending on the application surface and weather conditions, it can maintain its protective effect for 2–5 years. It is resistant to salt water and used in marine applications.
6. Can it be used as grafting/pruning paste?
Yes. Especially tar-based natural pruning pastes are applied to tree cuts to prevent fungal and bacterial entry.
7. Is the tar smell permanent?
It has a natural resin-like smell after application, which fades over time. It is not as heavy or persistent as chemical paint odors.
